Richard Henry Eidson, 88, Ballard, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born April 19, 1916 to Emmett Monroe and Lela Frances Seaton Eidson in Camdon County. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1933. On April 12, 1936 he married Cleo Jordan. In the late 1930s, he and his brother Chic, owned and operated teh Eidson Brothers Store in Ballard. He raised cattle, farmed row crops, hauled livestock to the Kansas City and St. Louis stockyards and custom baled for many people. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons, Billie Eidson and wife Charlotte, Ballard, and Danny Eidson and wife Connie, Urich; one sister-in-law Ellen Jane Eidson, Urich; one brother-in-law, Don Jordan and wife Violet, Arcola, Florida; seven grandchildren, Ron Eidson and wife Becky, Tim Eidson and wife Cheri, Richie Eidson and wife Tina, Jeremy Eidson, Casey Eidson and wife Jessi, Crystal Eidson and Carrie Eidson; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kortney, Jayde, Jagur, Brice and Jordan Kylee; nephews, nieces and other relatives and a special friend Hazel Shelton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Nona Hoover Eidson; his wife Cleo in December 1998; one brother Chic Eidson, and an infant sister Avis Florence. Funeral services were Sunday, November 7, at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.

Died at the residence of Dr. C. B. Elkins of this city Friday morning of spinal meningitis, induced by the measles, Mrs. James Elkins of Adrian, this state. Mr. and Mrs. Elkins were visiting relatives here for the holidays when Mrs. Elkins was taken with the measles, caught cold and death was the result. Her father, Dr. Hall, a prominent physician of Adrian, was telegraphed for and reached her bedside Wednesday and was with her in her last hours. The remains were taken to Adrian Friday for interment. James Elkins is a brother of Dr. C. B. Elkins and a druggist of Adrian. Dr. Elkins accompanied the bereaved husband and father in their sad journey.

ENER, James Claud

James Claud "Jamey" Ener, 40, of Butler, Missouri, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1968 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of James and Charlene Hammack Ener. He was employed as an auto mechanic. He was preceded in death by his father who died December 25, 2005 and his mother who died May 17, 2004. Survivors include one son; James Christopher Ener; three daughters, Samantha Charlene, Rebecca Ann and Jamie June Ener; two sisters, Colinda Bennett and Josie Arrendondo; his stepchildren; Michael and Megan Morris; Braxton Breckenbridge, Sierra Freeman and Miguel Barrea and the mothers of his children; Janis Harris, Lynn Morris, Emily Breckenridge, Tequila Ener and Carmen Barrea. Services will be held Thursday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas.

ENGEMAN, Duane W.

Duane William Engeman, son of Leo Frank and Edra Julia (Oswald) Engeman, was born July 15, 1958 in Clinton, Missouri. He passed away at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri November 23, 2007 at 49 years of age. Duane spent all of his life in the Appleton City area, living most of that time in the same home. He enjoyed raising Angus cattle and row crop farming. He took great pride in his fine herd of cattle and enjoyed watching them graze. Duane liked animals and had two pets he was very fond of, his cat and his dog, Buddy. Duane had an infectious smile and enjoyed sharing that with friends. He began most every morning by visiting with friends at the Dollar Store, Caseys, Sur-Gro and other places downtown in Appleton City. He was a very friendly man who enjoyed family and friends. Duane was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri. Preceding Duane in death were his father and grandparents. Survivors include his mother, Edra Engeman of Appleton City, Missouri; his daughter Alisha and husband Cory Mantonya of Clinton, Missouri, and his son, Derek Engeman of Appleton City; his brother Ivan Engeman and wife Diana of Lees Summit, Missouri; a grandson Jaden Engeman and granddaughter Megan Mantonya both of Clinton; a niece Lauren Engeman and a nephew Steve Engeman.

ENGLAND, Ruth Talla

Ruth Talla England, age 99, of Rich Hill formerly of Schell City, was born October 31, 1906, in Marlow, Oklahoma Territory near Fort sills and Chickasha. Her mother, Pansy Pearl Allen was a rural music teacher and composer. Her father, Thomas Oscar Talla, a school teacher, was one of 15 children born to a Norwegian immigrant family. Ruth was raised in a Christian home where she was baptized into the Methodist faith at the age of 10. She carried her love of her Lord Jesus Christ throughout her life and had most recently been a member of the Assembly of God Church in Rich Hill. Ruth attended Cameron University in Oklahoma and Northwestern Teachers College. She later graudated from Asbury Academy in Kentucky and completed her teaching degree from Weatherford College. She taught white and Indian children in Oklahoma and after moving to Missouri taught in Lowry City, Harwood, and Schell City. On May 12, 1933, Ruth was united in marriage to Clay W. England and to their union one daughter and one son were born. Clay and Ruth traveled to Germany, Norway, England, and Nigeria to serve in the mission fields. Throughout her life, Ruth wrote, illustrated and published many books and during her last 30 years, her time was spent writing, publishing, and distributing devotional materials. She was also a very accomplished artist and painter. Survivors include her son, John England and his wife Lena of Rich Hill; five grandchildren, Deborah Hayes and her husband Randy of Huntington, Texas; Sheila Presley and her husband, Terry of Kansas City, Kan.; Dana Cook and her husband, Mark of Flat Rock, Mich.; John L. England and his wife, Virginia of Kansas City, Kan.; and Dianne Montagna of Los Angeles, Calif.; six great grandchildren, Randy Hayes, Brian Moore, Michael Moore, Sara Moore, Mark Cook, Jr., and Tyler Cook; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Allen Talla; one adopted sister, Ethel Acord; one grandson, Stewart Allen; her daughter, Pearl Kempton; and her husband, Clay who passed away January 11, 1993. Funeral services for Ruth Talla England were held Wednesday, May 3, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City.

LeRoy Ennis, was born June 5th, 1915 and died September 28th, 1921, aged 6 years, 3 months and 20 days. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Ennis, five brothers and four sisters are left to mourn his loss. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community, but they should find consolation in the thought that LeRoy has gone to that Heavenly home where the sorrows and troubles of this life never enter. A short but very impressive funeral service was held at the Burdett cemetery.

ENSLEY, Ellen Davis

Mrs. Ensley, Our Oldest Citizen, Passes Away Mrs. Ellen Ensley, the oldest member of the Old Settlers' Society and oldest citizen of our county, entered into rest on Sunday, September 6, aged 104 years, 6 months, 21 days, at her home in Spruce Township. She was born in Mercer County, Kentucky, near the present site of Harrodsburg, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1804. She lived with her youngest son, William Ensley, on his farm, one and one-quarter miles northeast of Spruce, Bates County. Mrs. Ensley's maiden name was Ellen Davis. When 18 years old she was married to William Voris, who a few years after their marriage was elected sheriff of Mercer County. He was killed while making an arrest. They had two children, a son and a daughter. The daughter died and the son, Andrew Voris, 80 years old, is now living within a mile or two of the late home of his mother. Charles Edwin Ensor, 71, died on Nov. 29, 2003. He was born on Sept. 1, 1931, near Appleton City, Mo., to George E. and Helen (Murphy) Ensor, who preceded him in death. He attended schools in the Appleton City area, and high school in Butler, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, stationed in Germany from 1953-1955. He worked for the Manor Bread Company after returning from the military and then drove for various trucking companies until 1989. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 41. In 1955, he married Ruth Bassett. He became an auctioneer in the late 1950's calling commercial auctions and travelling to 18 states. He also called benefit auctions including the McGennis Youth Center barbeque auction until his health failed. He served 40 years as Parade Marshall for the Rich Hill Fourth of July parade. He coached little league baseball. He was a member of the Rich Hill American Legion Post No. 67, and the Masonic Lodge No. 254. Charles is survived by his wife Ruth; five children, Cheri Ensor, Raytown, Mo., Wendy Bradley, Butler, Mo., Scott Ensor, Peculiar, Mo., Marlene Pickering, Lebanon, Mo., and Valerie Kithcart, Rich Hill, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Ensor, Lexington, Mo.; sisters, Georgia Crist, Dot Crist, both of Butler, Mo.; four nephews, four nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Services were held at the Sheldon-Booth Chapel. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill, Mo.

Mitchell "Kelly" Eppard, 52, Raytown, MO, formerly of Harrisonville, MO, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Edgewood Manor Nursing Home in Raytown. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 18 at the Howard Cemetery in Goodman, MO. Kelly was born August 6, 1955 in Sidney, Nebraska, the son of Clyde Lewis and Opal Louise (Broam) Eppard. Kelly had worked at the Sheltered Workshops in Harrisonville and Grandview, MO. He enjoyed cars and trucks and going for car rides. He was great at remembering directions. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles. He is survived by two brothers, Clyde Lewis Eppard, Jr. and his wife, Glenda, Neosho, MO and Audie Steven Eppard and his wife, Janice, Webb City, MO; two sisters, Sherilyn LaDean Morgan, Westminster, CO and Leslie Jeanine Swartz and her husband, Gary, Adrian, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Nellie May Epperson, 94, of Mission, Kansas passed away Monday, March 10, 2008. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 13 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO. Nellie was born on March 6, 1914 in rural Bates County, MO to Dick and Hattie Griffith. She was the second child in a family of seven. On May 19, 1935, she married Odie Epperson. During WWII, she worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. Later, Nellie spent 35 years as manager for Leighter's Dress Shop. She loved ballroom dancing and was the proud possessor of eight trophies, dancing with husband, Odie, in competitions affiliated with Walters Dance Studio. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Odie Epperson; four brothers and one sister. She is survived by one sister, Sue Shepherd; her loving friend, Russ Callahan and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.

Melba was born January 4, 1922 in Bates County, MO, the daughter of Ernest Hall and Pearl Mae (Evans) Moore. She was the seventh child born of nine children. Albert Randall Evans, age 63, Joplin, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center. Bro. Al was born May 29, 1944, in Kansas City, MO, son of Albert C. Evans and Virginia Smith Evans of Nevada, MO. He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School, and then received a BA from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO, he also attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City, received his Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling from Anderson Baptist Seminary, Camilla, GA, and later completed the Basic Police Course at Missouri Southern University, Joplin. He was a certified Temperament Counselor, Licensed Clinical Counselor, and Licensed Clinical Pastoral Counselor, was member of the National Christian Counselors Association and Professional Clinical Member with the American Association of Christian Counselors. He served on the Nevada Baptist Association as Chairman of the Executive Board, the Nominating Committee, and was the Mission Chairman, he was on the Nominating Committee of the Baptist Student Union at MSSU, Joplin Sociology Committee, and served as advisor to Board of Directors for the Rural Missouri Incorporated, Jefferson City. He served as the Pastor of several churches during his ministry which began in 1962, including Olive Branch, Milo, MO, First Baptist Church, Arcadia, KS, City Mission of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, Milo Baptist Church, Milo, MO, Taylor's Memorial Baptist Church, Aberdeen, NC, Macedonia Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC, and from 1982 to present, Friendship Baptist Church, Joplin. In addition to pastoring these churches, Al worked for Job Search Assistance, Inc., Joplin, as an office manager, West Central Missouri Rural Development in Appleton City, MO, as office manager, Offenders Aid and Restoration in Fayetteville, NC, as a counselor, Human Services Coordinator, Region H, in Troy, NC, as a counselor and educator, and Manpower, West Central Missouri Rural Development in Appleton City, MO In addition to his parents, Bro. Al is survived by his wife, Debbie Evans whom he married Oct. 19, 1984, in Joplin: sons, Andre' Evans and wife Kristie of Creedmore, NC, a, Justin Evans and wife Katrin of Haaren, Germany, Shawn Hofer and wife Amy of Rutledge, Ga.: daughter, Michael Thomas and husband Briant, of Kansas City, MO: 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 23, at Friendship Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery.

Darline Neola Evans, 84, Adrian, Mo., died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at the Adrian Manor Nursing Home. Services were June 23 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian with the Rev. Steve Knoll of Victory Assembly of God Church, Adrian, officiating. Interment in Altona Cemetery, Adrian. Mrs. Evans was born July 29, 1916 in St. Joseph, Mo., to Benjamin Richardson and Blanche Neola (Mozingo) Richardson. She grew up in the St. Joseph, Mo., community and graduated from high school there. She married Glen Troy Evans in 1948. She was a foster parent to many children on Kansas City and Adrian during her lifetime. She attended the Assembly of God Church and lived in Adrian for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She leaves her husband of the home; a foster son, Donald Sedig of the home; a son, David Troy Evans and wife Marcia, Grandview, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jasmine and Rachael Evans, Grandview; and other relatives.

Martha Louise Evans, 81, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Sheldon, to Clyde William Hickman and Lydia Louise Tyree Hickman. She married Walter E. Evans Jr. on Nov. 16, 1945, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death in 1982. Martha was born and raised in Vernon County and graduated from Nevada High School in 1944. She spent the majority of her adult life in the Kansas City area as a homemaker. She was a member of the Blue Springs Al-Anon and was an avid bird watcher. Survivors include four sons, Walter B. Evans Ill, Augusta, Ga., William Rodney Evans, Oak Grove, Mo., John Evans, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Joseph Evans, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Sharon Louise Linnenbringer, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Polly Evans Chamberlain, Warsaw, Mo., nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, William Clyde Hickman, Deerfield, Mo.; four sisters, Leta Mae Wallace, Sparta, Tenn., Jane Swan and Ginger Rogers, both of Independence, Mo., and Shirley Cooper, Wichita, Kan. Memorial services will be held Monday, Nov. 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Mary Elizabeth Evans, age 71, Lamar, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar. Mary was born in Vernon County on Oct. 31, 1934, to Charles and Emma (Archer) Cochran. She worked as a waitress before retiring. Barton County Eagles were proud to have Mary as a charter member. She was also a former member of the Nevada Eagles. Survivors include two sisters, Joan Antel and Ellen Lawson, both of Nevada, Mo., many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Delbert "Bill" Cochran; a son, Randy Goodson; and a daughter, Janice Lewis. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, at Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

William G. Evans died in Kansas City, September 13th, 1912, of sepithelia, aged 45 years. William Evans was born in Bates county, Missouri, 1867 and spent his entire life here. He was a good citizen and enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He was never married. Mr. Evans was a member of the M.W.A. Lodge. The body was brought to Adrian and taken to Altona for burial. Funeral services were held from the Altona Baptist church on Thursday.
